About
My name is Lise Limpet, I live and work in western Cornwall and I travel around with my cat Leaf, exploring places to swim, find materials for making tide clocks and get inspiration.
I was born and raised by the sea in a small fishing village in northern Denmark, so I have always had a strong connection to the sea.
I set out to make my first tide clock out of necessity, a quick look at the clock tells me what the tide is doing and I can choose the safest place to swim without having to find the tide table and look it up. Soon I was making tide clocks for friends, then started selling them through my online shop.
I use the sea glass and sea pottery that I find on the beaches that I visit to make the clocks, creating unique mosaics mounted on 25cm diameter plywood discs, then fitted with a tide movement. High tide is at the top and low tide at the bottom.
The tide clocks are popular with anyone using the sea: swimmers, surfers, sailors as well as holiday makers and make great presents too.
Each clock comes boxed and includes a card explaining how the clock works and how to set it.
